Lessons from a Fan
Since March the boys & I have been delivering Meals on Wheels each Wednesday AM. This has been a really neat opportunity for the boys to be "Jesus with skin on" to some very deserving folks. One of our clients, Ms. Martha, who always has a smile for the boys & according to the boys, the cleanest apartment! - asked us a favor the other day. Evidently she was at a dr.'s appt. when the complex passed out free fans to the disabled & elderly & she asked if we could arrange for her to get one. We went to Home Depot & came back to her place after our meals were delivered with a new fan for her apt. The boys went in & took the fan out of the box for her & set it up. She was moved to tears & said that now she could get some relief from the heat. She asked the boys, "what can I do for YOU?" and Ian answered, "just give us 'thank you's'" & this answer seemed to tug at her heart strings even more. She had of course been grateful from the moment they stepped in the door, but Ian seemed to be assuring her that was all they needed in return. Such a simple gesture on a hot day, but a huge impact on the boys & Ms. Martha.
