The Birds & the Bees &....tigers?

Okay, I guess it's time to have "the talk"?! While I have been pretty practical about the mating habits of animals we have yet to have the talk concerning people. This is evident in the following conversation I had with our eldest who is 10:

Me: The tigers sure are playful today! Oh, look, now the female tiger is lying down & now the male tiger is....hey, look over there, the bears!

Ian: They're mating! Isn't that how the cubs get in her stomach?

Me: Remember how we talked about Jet (our dog) when he got fixed so the sperm wouldn't help create puppies in a female? Well, the male tiger is putting his sperm into the female.

Ian: But with Mom's, like when you had us, it just happened naturally, right? We were just put in your stomach automatically.

Me: Well, Daddies have to help....now I'm getting nervous...we're at the zoo & in mixed company with his 2 younger brothers.

Ian: with a mortified expression: Is kissing involved?

Later, after relaying this to my Mom, out of Ian's earshot, her answer to the kissing question was "if you're lucky!" :) now she has a mortified expression if she is reading this! ha!

Anyway, he hasn't talked about it anymore so I think we have some time & once he found out kissing was involved he was pretty grossed out anyway.....

I am cracking up so hard that i'm about to roll all over the floor and wake the whole family up!!!

"if your lucky" that's great!!

Next time we are together, i'll try to remember to loan you my book, "A Chicken's Guide to Talking Turkey with your kids about sex". It is a very good book and very practical & helpful..!
