A trip on Hwy. 287 - Part One

Thursday, we had plans to go to the Pioneer Village in Corsicana where Ft. Parker is located....you know, where Cynthia Ann Parker was captured by indians in a now infamous raid & the mother of Quanah Parker - famous Comanche chief? Anywhooooo, we got as far as Ennis off I-45 when I realized that we would not make it to Corsicana in time to really be able to explore - planning is important when going on adventures! So we went to a neat little antique shop in Ennis where I got these very cool Real West mags from the 1960's - actual people accounts of life in the old west from the 1800s to the then present. We also visited the Ennis tourist bldg & the lady there was so happy to have visitors that she went out of her way to help us. She had a cabbage shredder from the late 1800s that her great-grandaddy had built & gave the boys a demonstration(sans cabbage). She also paints eggs & the boys got an earful of how the whole process is involved - they were little gentlemen & listened politely :) Never underestimate exploring with your kiddos - you never know who you might meet - either at a visitors center or thru old mags! They also have a railroad "museum" which was closed, but they got to explore this cool caboose.
