Every year in August, my Dad's family has a reunion at my Grandpa Dick's house in Southern California. This year, on a whim, my Mom & Dad took the 2 big boys, Ian & Trevor with them! The boys were ecstatic to go on a plane ride & to see the ocean for the first time! Ian was in CA when he was 18 mos old & he was quite proud of the fact this was his 2nd time in CA....
After a crazy time at the airport Saturday AM - they sat on the plane for about 3 hours only to be told that the aircraft had been breached & was now in the hands of the police - crazy! They finally boarded another plane & landed in Burbank at Bob Hope Airport. The boys thought it was cool to disembark on the stairs outside as opposed to a jet bridge.
They were very glad to meet & hug their Great Grandpa Dick & Great Grandma Margie! They have lived in the same house since my Dad was a teenager - Dad even helped build the pool! The boys had a blast swimming, eating fresh tomatoes off the vine & watching the chicken legs twirl on the spit - a huge rock BBQ my Grandpa built!
Ian enjoyed the sites while driving along the coast - they were amazed at all the signs in Spanish! Sunday was beach day, rather morning, and they had a great time at Manhattan Beach. The pier has a small free aquarium at the end of it filled with baby sharks, electric eels & cool shells! The boys had a great time being chased by the waves & seeing the oil tankers through their binoculars. Ian was amazed to see them out the window of the plane on takeoff from LAX as well!
All in all - a whirlwind trip - they actually left DFW at 1:45 Saturday & arrived home Sunday night about 10pm. But Grandma & Papa packed a LOT of fun in those hours !
Thank you to G & P for a great time & thanks to AA for employing Grandma & for such fun benefits (not cheap, but fun!)
