This is not the actual picture, but it gives the right kind of feeling for this blog...
Last night (arr. 7:15) we decided to go to River Legacy Park in North Arlington, close to our house. It's a huge complex of trails, fields, playground, picnic, etc. We started out on the newest trail off of Hwy. 157 just before Green Oaks Blvd. The boys all had their roller skates on & Jet was happy to be in nature. About 1/2 mile down the paved trail, Myles said he was tired so I handed off the backpack with waters & dog dish to Stuart. We said we would go back to the van & then pick them up at the end of the trail close to the main park area...
1st lesson learned: always be sure each adult HAS A PHONE! I left my phone in the backpack
2nd lesson learned: Know which direction the park is (West) & which direction you are walking & walking & walking (East) -Stuart is loved, if directionally challenged :)
3rd lesson: always ask for help after dark - 2 kind ladies loaned me their cell phone which put
me in contact with Stuart & the boys. This same lady knew the trails backward & forward which helped us determine the boys were actually headed to Grand Prairie!!!
4th lesson: be thankful family lives close - I ran to Mom's house, got her phone, deposited Myles in her bed & raced back to the park before the gates closed at 10.
5th lesson: always take the smaller car - I got to the trail head before the gates closed & found an entrance I'm assuming are for service vehicles. The Scion rode the trail quite nicely & at 9:55 pm I didn't run into any traffic or bobcats.
6th lesson: Be thankful the father of your boys was a Boy Scout, is patient & loving. The boys sang praise songs, prayed & talked to pass the time.
All in all Stuart, Ian , Trevor & Jet were on the trail 2 hrs. 45 minutes & walked (Stu), skated (boys) 7 miles! They said when they saw the headlights of the Scion on the trail ahead of them they threw their hands up in the air & hooped & hollered! The boys were super troopers & Stuart kept the attitude positive & adventurous.
They spotted an armadillo which quickly fled from Jet & smelled a skunk very close - also saw lots of fireflies.
There are bobcats in River Legacy Parks & snakes.......thankfully none showed up on the trail. Also a beautiful full moon glowed in the night sky. There is country in the city, but when it's dark, it's really dark - even on a paved trail.
When we got home Ian declared he would not wear his skates for 3 years!
Thank you Jesus, for keeping your hand on us tonight!
